Bachelor of Physiotherapy

Overview

Bachelor of Physiotherapy or BPT is a health care profession, concern with assessment, evaluation, diagnosis, and restoration of physical movement and function of the body. Physiotherapist plays an important role enabling people to improve their health.

Recognized universities and colleges offer Bachelor of Physiotherapy course, which is a full time Bachelor’s program, recognized and approved by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore. The course is taught by the highly trained faculty to give the best theoretical and practical exposure to the students. The BPT undergraduate course is for four and a half years with a well-organized academic curriculum.

Eligibility

  • Candidate must have passed in Physics, Chemistry and Biology with a minimum aggregate of 45% marks. However, few colleges will have a cut-off percentage of 50%, hence candidate should carefully check before applying for the BPT course.
  • Minimum age requirement is 17 years
  • Entrance Test (prescribed by few universities)
  • The candidate should be medical fit

Duration

4 years + 6 months of compulsory Internship

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy course in reputed institutions is recognized and affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.

Admission Procedure

Interested candidates can apply for Bachelor of Physiotherapy course by filling up the application form from respective BPT Universities or Colleges. Some of the universities will conduct entrance test and the selection is based on merit.

The 41/2 year course curriculum of BPT is designed systematically as the University norms and guidelines.

Career Opportunities

Job Prospects and career opportunities in Bachelor of Physiotherapy are intense in the health sector. The key areas of Physiotherapists include; Hospitals, Clinics, Sports Department, Fitness Centers, Special Schools, etc.

Physiotherapists can usually start in hospitals after completion of the course and after gaining experience, they can specialize in sports injuries, arthritis, stroke rehabilitation, Women’s Health, pediatrics, respiratory care, neurology, occupational health, etc.

After the completion of the course, students can even apply for Master of Physiotherapy to pursue higher studies.
